Our Story
Lark Languages was founded in 2013 by Julia Weidmann, a visionary whose entrepreneurial journey is driven by a dual mission: to foster meaningful human connections across cultures and to ensure that skilled educators and linguists receive the professional recognition and financial reward they deserve for their hard work.
Julia’s journey began in her youth when she volunteered as an English teacher for refugees living near her high school in Atlanta, Georgia. That formative experience ignited a life-long passion for language and culture which led to decades of humanitarian engagement throughout the Americas - supporting a childhood nutrition program in Nicaragua, interpreting for youth delegations in Mexico, advocating for the rights of displaced Indigenous communities in Guatemala, and co-founding a Spanish immersion school in the United States.
Twenty-two years after her first intercultural experience—working with refugees in the St. Pius high school cafeteria—Julia created Lark Languages. Initially taking gradual steps to build the company so that she could dedicate the majority of her time to her three young children, Julia has led the company to be one of the most effective language service providers in the industry. To date, Lark Languages has helped more than 3,000 individuals, including employees of Fortune 500 companies, charitable organizations, government agencies as well as schools, increase their intercultural effectiveness through enhanced language and communication.
